The record-setting rainfall on Long Island on August 13 severely impacted several of Mercy Haven’s housing sites across the South Shore of Long Island.

A total of 26 of our housing units were damaged by the unprecedented flooding and heavy rain, to the extent that many of our residents have been displaced. Below are photos of some of our flooded properties and damaged belongings of our residents.  We are still assessing the costs, but we expect them to exceed $100,000.

You can help us by making a financial contribution to help us restore the homes of those we serve.  You can also help by sharing this information with your friends, families and colleagues. Be sure to check our web-site regularly for updates on our progress. Thanks!

Damages Caused by Record Rainfall on August 13

Everyone needs a place to call home...

Tonight more than 3,000 Long Islanders, including nearly 1,500 children, will have no place to sleep.  Some live with mental illness. Some suffer chronic substance abuse. Most want to get back on their feet, find jobs, join a community, but don't know where to begin.

Since 1985, Mercy Haven has provided temporary and permanent housing--and critical services--to Long Islanders in need.
